Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She initially wanted to be an actor, however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends were no longer able to dance along with her. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 feet 1 inches tall. After I surpassed my male counterparts, that's when I gave up. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted to acting. Her teacher from high school was what pushed her to take the next step. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. The teacher who suggested she pursue a part the annual school production. The show led her to receive a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Through the years since, Brugel has been offered roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens, attracting the greatest interest when she was offered the role in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale which was produced over the course of ten years.
